Erik Lowe, Aaron Toensing OUT at Fog City

Plus, shuffles within the Mina empire, and FOH additions to Boxing Room.

Fog City

EMBARCADERO— Changes are afoot at Fog City, the upscale diner from chef-owner Bruce Hill (Zero Zero, Bix). Chef Erik Lowe and pastry chef Aaron Toensing have both left the restaurant, destinations unknown. In the meantime, Javier Montano has been named executive chef, effective immediately. Originally from New Mexico, Montano has spent time cooking all over the bay area, including Grand Café and Limón in San Francisco and most recently as a corporate chef for tech companies Electronic Arts and Google. Alex Garay, already a veteran of Bix and Fog City and most recently from the pastry department at Michael Mina, will step in to head up desserts. [EaterWire]

SANTA CLARA— Bay Area native Chris Curtiss has been named executive chef of Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak & Pub at Levi's Stadium. Curtiss returns to the West coast after a stint in Arizona, most recently holding the position of executive chef at Mina's Bourbon Steak at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Unsurprisingly, the chef is excited to return to the Bay's comparatively verdant growing region after cooking in a desert climate for several years. "To be a chef and to get the opportunity again to cook with the abundance of the fresh and seasonal ingredients available to us here is a culinary dream come true," explains Curtiss. He plans to implement vegetable-focused dishes to both Bourbon Steak and the Pub, in addition to the meat-laden items that diners typically expect from a place with "steak" in the name. [EaterWire]

HAYES VALLEY—They're ready to laissez le bon temps rouler over at Boxing Room, with the addition of a full bar and cocktail program, as well as a new general manager and bar manager. Greg Quinn will take on the GM position, the same job he previously held at The Alembic, while Boxing Room veteran Bobby Baker, will return to manage the new, fully loaded bar. Most recently, Baker managed the properties of Future Bars, including Bourbon & Branch, Cask, Tradition and Rick House. In celebration, a menu of New Orleans classics like a Pimm's Cup and a Ramos Gin Fizz will join the party. [EaterWire]
