File this under “finally:” the New Mission Alamo Drafthouse theater is set to open to the public on Thursday, December 17. Originally announced in 2012, the $10 million restoration has taken a bit much longer than planned, but its arrival in December will be accompanied by the latest Star Wars movie, Episode VII: The Force Awakens. You can already buy tickets here.
The landmark theater was restored to keep as much of the 1920s version of it alive, with five screens ranging in size from 34 to 320 seats. As is the Alamo Drafthouse’s tradition (which was founded in Austin), there will be a full-service kitchen and bar. Leading the kitchen is newly-announced executive chef Ronnie New (Comstock Saloon), who will be serving up pizza, burgers, salads, wraps, snacks, desserts and more, delivered straight to your seat. The bar, Bear Vs Bull, is being led by Isaac Shumway (Tosca Cafe, Bourbon & Branch) and will serve as an independent drinking house and also provide craft cocktails, beer and wine to theater-goers.
