Codeword, Part Club Part Pizzeria, Set to Open in SoMa [Updated]

More specifically, a 24-hour pizzeria and DJ-focused nightclub.

Sound the alarms: even more 24-hour pizza will soon be available in SoMa now that Codeword, the new nightclub from the DNA Lounge owners, is soft opening (potentially without alcohol) Thursday, November 10. Codeword will have very similar DNA (sorry) as DNA Lounge with the restaurant in one half and nightclub in the other. The two will be connected internally, but with separate entrances. The pizzeria will be open all day, with the same menu as DNA Pizza (pizza, coffee and light breakfast, sandwiches, salads).

The club portion is very sparse — there’s literally no furniture yet — and the focus is on regular DJ sets, whereas DNA Lounge focuses more on live music. Codeword is a little smaller than DNA Lounge, and the hope is to have rotating DJ’s every night of the week, plus weekend daytime dance parties. "We’re not trying to be fancypants; we’re not trying to be an ultra lounge or a cocktailers heaven," general manager Barry Synoground told Eater. "We’ll serve you a slice and a beer at lunch and then again over some dance music at night." The pizzeria portion will be open 24 hours, and the nightclub will be open 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

Editor's note: This article has been updated to reflect a delayed opening date of Thursday, November 12.
