New Mission at Alamo Drafthouse is good and ready for its big Star Wars opening tomorrow, and that means its standalone bar Bear Vs Bull is all juiced up, too. Bartender Isaac Shumway (Tosca Café, Bourbon and Branch, Alembic) has put together a menu for serious drinkers of 18 (!) boilermakers, cocktails — including frozen — beer and wine to enjoy before, after or during a show. The bar’s name is a reference to San Francisco’s history (apparently during the Gold Rush era, it was common to lasso California grizzlies and pit them against Spanish bulls at Mission Dolores, for the ultimate bloodsport) and Shumway is keeping that local theme throughout the menu. There are 28 beers on tap, all from California brewers, a completely California-centric wine list and some of the liquors used are local as well, like St. George Spirits.

While the bar will also service the theaters, including drinks themed to the movies, Bear Vs Bull is intended as a standalone, neighborhood hang. "I'm excited to have an independent, neighborhood bar within the movie theater, being in the Mission and just joining the community," Shumway told Eater. "I want the bar to be a chill, neighborhood spot where people really want to hang out." Check out the menu in full below.
