The massive renovation of the New Mission theater has been three-and-a-half years in the making, but it has finally made its big debut. Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League has been working with the Historic Preservation Committee to restore New Mission to its original glory, resulting in today’s official open of New Mission at Alamo Drafthouse, and just in time for the epic update to the Star Wars series. Drafthouse lovingly restored the New Mission space, putting in $10 million for an update that mixes the original 1920s decor with 2015 technology for five screening rooms.

As is Drafthouse practice, servers take your order from your seat and deliver the food during the movie. Chef Ronnie New (Comstock Saloon, Magnolia Brewpub) put together a full menu, ranging from snacky things to sandwiches, salads and pizzas (plus the signature queso), all ideal for dining in the dark. Barman Isaac Shumway's (Tosca Café) drink menu for Bar Vs Bull, the theater’s standalone bar, has 18 (!) boilermakers, cocktails (three of which are on tap), plus local beer and wine to enjoy before, during or after a show.

New Mission at Alamo Drafthouse opens tonight with a showing of the latest Star Wars movie, Episode VII: The Force Awakens; the full future schedule can be seen here.
