Ghirardelli Square will be hip again, people. Jonathan Waxman and Le Marais (and Bluxome Street Winery, for that matter) are here to make sure of it. The two big names are planning separate projects, and there are some new updates to share on each project.
First up is Waxman’s restaurant, which — until now — was kept a closely guarded secret. Turns out the space will be a repeat of his recent Atlanta concept, Brezza Emporio and Pizzeria, a casual Italian spot serving up pizza and pasta to all the tourists in need, Hoodline reported. Waxman’s giving the people what they want with this one, with his famous JW chicken with salsa verde on the menu. There’s still no firm opening timeline, but stay tuned for updates.
As for Le Marais, the Marina bakery is not quite ready to move into its 5,000-square-foot space, but it is popping up to drum up excitement for its impending arrival. Owners Patrick Ascaso and Joanna Pulcini Ascaso are taking over the former Kara’s Cupcakes shop while they ready the bigger space. Starting early this month, they’ll be bringing in about a dozen items a day from the Chestnut Street store, plus Stumptown coffee, until the bigger space (which will feature dinner, brunch and a full bar) opens in May. Pop-up hours will be Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
