Just seven months after making it official, Blue Bottle and Tartine Bakery have changed their relationship status. In a joint statement, Tartine owners Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt and Blue Bottle’s James Freeman announced that “remaining separate companies makes the most sense.” That’s not to say that things will go back to normal; Tartine is updating the original Guerrero Street space, and both brands plan to add locations here in SF (Tartine at Heath in the Mission come this spring), as well as in Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo — just independently of the other.
