Robyn Sue Fisher started the now mega-popular, liquid nitrogen-based Smitten Ice Cream out of a wagon cart in the Mission seven years ago, eventually expanding to five brick-and-mortar stores, except not in the original neighborhood. Now, she’s opening a sixth location on Valencia Street, right near where she started it all. “Where I used to set up my wagon a lot is literally right around where the shop is going to be, so it’s super, super special to me,” Fisher told Eater. “I really want to put the original wagon in there and turn it into a bench and put the original machine in there and use the shop to show our story.”
Fisher has been busy developing new flavors for the store — about which she was maddeningly coy — as well as design elements that will fit the neighborhood. The new location combines 904 and 908 Valencia St. to create a wider space that Fisher wants to be a place to hang out, not just grab a nitrogen-created cone and go. The store is expected to open next year.
