Anyone who's spent any length of time in New York is likely familiar with the Halal Guys, the leaders of the pack in a slew of Midtown carts serving platters of chicken, gyro meat, and rice drizzled with their famed "white sauce" and as much spicy red hot sauce as diners can handle. The cheap-eats favorite is now setting its sights on the big time, with two brick-and-mortars up and running in New York and plans for 50 shops across Southern California. But the most exciting news of all: they're also targeting the Bay Area.
Foodbeast reports that a franchisee has signed an exclusive deal with the Halal Guys to cover the San Francisco, East Bay, and Las Vegas territories, and that they plan to open 30 locations across those three areas. Their first targets: a location in San Francisco, and a second in Berkeley, near the Cal campus. While official spots haven't been nailed down, they're in the shopping process as we speak, with the goal of getting their doors open by next February. If they succeed, it's likely that the Bay Area will play host to still more Halal Guys outposts. For now, however, fans of the group will have to content themselves with the unaffiliated Halal Cart downtown, which serves similar fare.
