Eat at Seed + Salt to Help Women; Free Beer at Fat Angel

Plus a look back at vintage Fillmore and learn how to make bitters at Flora.

Fat Angel

FILLMORE Take a look back at a very different time in the Fillmore district, before there was Delfina Pizzeria or SPQR. Quirky, tiny Millard's was one of the first places on Fillmore to own and operate an espresso machine. [The New Fillmore]

MARINA— During the month of February, clean-eating spot Seed + Salt will help you improve more than your yoga-arms by donating to a different organization each week.  This week mention Spark, a local non-profit dedicated to improving women's lives around the world through investment, and Seed + Salt will donate 5% of your sale to the organization. FILLMORE— Fat Angel is celebrating its fifth anniversary on February 4. In honor of the milestone, they'll be tapping one of their first purchases— a keg of 2010 Port Brewing/ The Lost Abbey Judgment Day Belgian-Style Quadrupel— and pouring diners a free glass. They'll start pouring at 4 pm. [EaterWire]

OAKLAND— In the first part of a two-class series on Old Fashioneds and Manhattans, learn all about bitters and syrups, by applying them to the two classic whiskey drinks. This cocktail class at Flora will educate drinkers about the history of bitters and bittering agents, as well as simple syrups; attendees will even have the chance to make their own orange bitters to take home. Tickets are $75. [EaterWire]
