The Maven team is making a power play in mid-Market: in addition to their previously announced new bar, Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio, owner Jay Bordeleau and cocktail guru Kate Bolton are going to be opening a restaurant right next door, to be named Cadence. Inside Scoop reports that while the two venues (at 39 Fell and 1446 Market, respectively, in the triangle where Fell, Polk, and Market meet) will share a liquor license and a kitchen, they'll be entirely separate entities for patrons, with distinct entrances and design.
To run the kitchen, Bordeleau has signed on Chron rising star Joey Elenterio, who made his name at Chez TJ and recently scored a favorable Bauer review as the chef de cuisine at Wayfare Tavern. Bordeleau says the "progressive American" food and vibe will be "a little more ambitious" than Maven's, and unlike Maven, it'll be more of a sit-down spot that accepts reservations. Bolton will contribute a bar program driven by seasonal produce.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tipple's will provide a more casual counterpoint next door, with a jazz-heavy nightly musical offering curated by Bordeleau and a boozy, spirit-forward cocktail menu until 2 am. The current plan is for Cadence and Mr. Tipple's to both open this summer.
