Here's proof that the best things in life are free: Smoke's Poutinerie in Berkeley will be giving away free poutine today, March 5, to celebrate their grand re-opening. The Canada-based poutine chain opened last fall, much to the joy of drunk-munchie-craving college students and gluttons across the East Bay. For those who are unfamiliar, poutine is one of Canada's most lauded innovations, traditionally composed of fries, cheese curds and gravy; Smoke's takes it a bit further with the addition of items like Chipotle pulled pork, bacon, steak, sautéed mushrooms and chili— pretty much anything a poutine-lover could ever want.
Now that they've had a chance to settle in to their Berkeley digs, it's time to celebrate. Enjoy a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m., followed by glorious, free poutine from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. And to sweeten the deal, they'll be giving away Jones Soda to the first 100 guests in line, as well as a Jones Soda backpack or skateboard deck to the first five.
