After two and a half years as SF Weekly's Food and Drink Editor and Restaurant Critic, Anna Roth has announced her departure from the publication, effective today, via Twitter:
Today was my last day at @SFWeekly after a wild & mostly wonderful 2.5 years. Please send hugs, drinks & job offers to anna.roth AT gmail
— Anna Roth (@annaroth) March 6, 2015
Her last review will run next week. No word yet on Roth's long term plans in the SF publishing scene. A source close to Roth says she plans to pursue freelance and personal projects in the immediate future.
Her departure solidifies the fact that the publication is hitting a rough patch. Editor-in-chef Brandon Reynolds was fired last month and— according to sources — there has been a steady stream of staff departures in what is an "increasingly toxic environment." Rumor has it, the high-level plan is to shift towards more of a lifestyle focus. The former editor of Acoustic Guitar, Mark Kemp, has been hired in Reynold's place. As of today, Roth's replacement is unknown.
