After the departure of opening chef Kelly McCown and a nationwide manhunt for his replacement, Goose & Gander has announced that Howard Ko will join the team as chef de cuisine, effective immediately.
Ko will make the move straight from the front lines at The Restaurant at Meadowood, though his pedigreed background includes The French Laundry, L.A.'s Melisse and Daniel in New York. While McCown's cuisine has proven a successful addition to the compact dining scene in St. Helena, Ko's recent fine-dining experiences promise to add an interesting element to the generally casual Goose & Gander.
Goose & Gander, which replaced the incredibly popular Martini House in 2011, is known for its garden-inspired cocktails and a ridiculously decadent burger topped with bone marrow (and sometimes foie gras). Its location in downtown tiny St. Helena has guaranteed a popular social scene for young wine professionals and locals— especially when the patio stays open til midnight during the summer, starting July 1.
