Pairing craft cocktails and simple pizzas since 1993, the Orbit Room at Market and Laguna took one last spin this week Hoodline reports.

The bar's owner Jay Johnson, who also owned the Haight's Club Deluxe, passed away last month and according to an employee who spoke with Hoodline while packing up the bar, the space has been sold to a new owner. The Orbit Room's official last day was Wednesday, April 1st.

No word yet on who or what will be taking over the space. The liquor license was not set to expire until later this year and there's no transfer on the books yet. Although the bar was possibly ahead of its time with their sometimes painstakingly slow cocktails, the room always had an audience but never seemed packed like the city's newer wave of cocktail bars. Regardless, the stretch of Market Street between Van Ness and the Castro is about to get an influx of new residents across several new or recently completed developments, and all those people are going to need somewhere to go for a post-Zuni nightcap.
