The folks behind Maiden Lane's colorful Romper Room have launched Iron Horse Coffee Bar, a new daytime spot for "coffee that doesn't suck" and clandestine boozing. Named for the restaurant that occupied the space in 1950, Iron Horse features Ritual Coffee's Central American blends for drip and Ethiopian beans for their espressos.
In addition to the standard coffee choices, Iron Horse's kiosk is able to take advantage of Romper Room's liquor license and offers a couple fortified coffee drinks like the classic coffee-and-whiskey Cowboy Coffee or something they're calling the Horseshoe, made with steamed Bailey's, espresso and cream. The space is limited inside, but there's some inviting sidewalk seating outside along Maiden Lane.
Hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m daily, after which the Romper Room opens for proper cocktails.
