North Beach bar menu Chubby Noodle has apparently outgrown their spot at Amante and is ready for another storefront of it's own. Owner Pete Mrabe, the restaurateur behind North Beach Mexican spots Don Pisto's and Pisto's Tacos, is shuffling around his mini-chain to balance out his offerings in two neighborhoods at once.
As Hoodline's eyes on the neighborhood report, the former Pisto's Tacos at Grant and Vallejo will re-open on June 15th with Chubby Noodle's Asian Fusion concept. The menu will also be an expansion from the short one currently only available inside Amante, but will focus more heavily on the Japanese cuisine than what's on offer at the Lombard Street location. (No word yet on whether there will be bottomless dim sum brunch either.)
As for the North Beach taco fans: a sign in the window at the future Chubby Noodle is directing diners to the original Don Pisto's location around the corner at 510 Union Street. According to Mrabe, Pisto's Tacos outgrew their Grant Ave spot, "three months after it opened" and will be heading to the former Mas Sake space on Lombard Street in the Marina. Expect the buildout to take at least six months at which point the balance of taco joints and asian fusion spots will be restored in both neighborhoods.
