Popular Castro hang Lookout is getting in the brunch game starting this Saturday, June 13th. The new weekly brunch pop-up features a rotating Southern-style menu from Wes Rowe (Wes Burger, Uncle Brothers Chicken) and Dominique Garcia (Mama Knows) as well as soul music from Motown On Mondays. So the event is called Soul Delicious (get it?).
Rowe's opening day menu includes a breakfast sandwich with fried chicken, a ground maple pork belly patty and a fried egg that he thinks "will be in contention for one of the best in the city." Lookout owner Chris Hastings says that Lookout, with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows, is an ideal venue for daytime events. He adds that he's been wanting to unite soul food and soul music for a long time. "I just didn’t have the right group of people to make this happen," he adds. Until now.
The DJ starts right as Lookout opens so the dance party will be in full effect as diners arrive, a la Lime (RIP). Soul Delicious pops up at Lookout on Saturday, June 13th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will run every Saturday through October. If all goes well, they might even extend it.
Here’s what you’ll find on the opening day menu:
Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich $11 | Buttered white bun, fried egg, ground maple pork belly patty, aged cheddar, redeye mayo, and arugula served with home fries
Uncle Brother’s Fried Chicken $12 | Cheese grit cakes topped with sautéed tomatoes, fried chicken, and jalapeno cream gravy
Sweet or Savory Waffles $12 | Sharp cheddar scallion waffle served with two poached eggs and bacon or Buttermilk waffle with fresh whipped cream, maple and fresh fruit
Austin Style Breakfast Tacos (3) $12 | Bacon, eggs, potatoes, and cheese served with smoked jalapeño salsa, with the option to sub bacon for refried black beans
