Saigon Sandwich in the Tenderloin, 1 p.m. on Wednesday

An afternoon lunch destination for eaters of all kinds.

Saigon Sandwich has long been one of San Francisco's truly essential cheap eats destinations, offering an unbeatable deal on banh mi sandwiches stuffed with roast pork, chicken and paté. For Cheap Eats Week, we sent photographer Patricia Chang over to the belly of the Tenderloin to check out the steady stream of lunch patrons. There she found a well-oiled machine serving a wide mix of people, all of whom had one thing in common: a hankering for cheap sandwiches.
