Two-Alarm Fire Guts Popular Outer Sunset Bar

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

A two-alarm fire broke out at the Riptide, San Francisco's "best little honky tonk by the beach" and popular hangout for local surfers and Outer Sunset residents.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but SFGate reports that it broke out around 10:15 a.m., "gutted the bar and caused minor damage to the Great Highway Market next door."

The Riptide is located at 3639 Taraval Street between 46th and 48th Avenues and was built in 1941. Known for hosting some of the best local music acts in town, the bar still had its original knotty pine walls and fireplace, the latter of which made it a go-to destination on foggy San Francisco nights.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but locals are already mourning the loss of this beloved spot and keeping their fingers crossed that it has a speedy recover. Stay tuned for more updates.
