Fort Point Beer Company, the Presidio brewery founded in 2014 by brothers Tyler and Justin Catalana, found almost instant success amongst SF beer drinkers. But until now, the popular beer has only been available at bars and restaurants. That's all going to change in October when Fort Point Beer Company opens its first retail location, a kiosk in the Ferry Building.
Justin Catalana says this partnership came about because while the Ferry Building has a great wine presence with Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant, they also wanted a "strong local brewing company" in the mix. Fort Point's popularity, plus the success of the brother's other venture Mill Valley Beerworks, made them an obvious choice.
"This is our first opportunity to directly engage with customers. It will be great for developing and improving our beers over time.
One of five brand-new merchant spots, the Fort Point kiosk will be located under the arches on the north-facing exterior of the Ferry Building, serving six beers on draft (delivered daily from the brewery), four of which will be their core offerings (Park, KSA, Westfalia, Villager) and two that will rotate based on what's currently being brewed. They'll all be available by the pint or the growler, a vessel Fort Point is hoping to make more popular amongst San Franciscans. There's also talk of hot dogs and other food, but Catalana is quick to add that the menu's still being finalized.
At 400-500 square feet, the space isn't huge, but guests will be able to enjoy a separate mini beer garden with seating. Catalana says he sees that area as a spot where commuters will taste a few beers before deciding which one they want to get in a growler to take home, although people are, of course, welcome to hang out and enjoy a pint. And in typical SF fashion, Fort Point Beer enthusiasts can use an app to place their orders ahead of time and have their growler ready and waiting for pick up.
The other kiosks joining Fort Point are Blue Bottle Coffee (their second location in the Ferry Building), Dandelion Chocolate (moving from their current inside spot), Marla Bakery, and SoW Juice.
