We're talking rum cocktails served in a coconut and daily seafood specials.

The Caribbean is far, far away from our city, but that hasn’t stopped chef Manny De Torres Gimenez (Mr. Pollo, The Palace) and wife Katerina De Torres from trying to bring the island vibe closer to home. The two are opening Coco Frio, a restaurant based on the food and carefree vibes of Isla Margarita, an island off the coast of Venezuela, on Tuesday, September 1.

Venezuelan native Torres Gimenez and chef de cuisine Danny Hernandez, who grew up on Isla Margarita, put together a daily-changing seafood- and street food-heavy menu, including dishes like arepas, fish soup, sashimi and catch of the day specials. There will also be a smaller portion and lower-priced "bar bite" menu, as well as a daily three-course $29.99 prix fixe menu. Drinks skew very tropical, as in the signature Coco Frio ($15), which is a drink for two people with rum, coconut rum, coconut water and lime served in a coconut.

Coco Frio opens Tuesday, September 1 at 2937 Mission Street and will be open Wednesday to Sunday from 4 p.m.- 10 p.m. Check out an example of the daily-changing menu below.
