SAN FRANCISCO— Here's some perspective for all those Yelpers out there complaining about the quality of their Hamachi crudo: Beth Spotswood recently took a look at some of the meals that inmates at the SF County Jail consume on a regular basis and it ain't pretty. Perhaps the article is a "scared straight" kind of thing, because that "Italian sauce" looks like a cautionary tale for sure. [Chron]

LOWER HAIGHT— As promised, Richie Nakano (Hapa Ramen) is doing a French bread pizza pop-up at Wing Wings, with owner Christian Ciscle. "We want to to do something really chill and affordable, just try to have fun and not take things too seriously," said Nakano. The pop-up is tomorrow, August 4 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. [EaterWire]

TEMESCAL— Dona Tomas is hosting a special dinner featuring the flavors of the Yucatan Peninsula, as part of their regional dinner series. Expect dishes like fundido with gouda and ground beef picadillo and al pastor with grilled pineapple and black beans. The dinner takes place Wednesday, August 5 from 5:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. [EaterWire]

EMBARCADERO— Join Hog Island Oyster Co. for their "Let's Give a Shuck for Education" series. Do good and eat oysters at the same time, as 10% of your tab will be donated to the California Academy of Arts and Sciences Youth and Field Trip Program. All you've got to do is feast on oysters this Thursday, August 6 at Hog Island's Ferry Building location. [EaterWire]
