Opening quietly this Sunday in the long-vacant Buck Tavern space in Hayes Valley is Shido, a family-run sushi restaurant that wants to cater to the neighborhood. The menu, from sushi chef Wilson Ma, is extensive, with entire sections devoted kushiyaki (skewered meats), teriyaki, donburi, several sashimi served in martini glasses and, of course, plenty of sushi. There won't be a tasting menu as of opening, but manager Karina Sha expects to add one soon. "We want to have a better idea first of what people are looking for in this area," she told Eater.
The 65-seat restaurant will have an almost completely Japanese sake list, with the exception of local Ozeki, which is brewed in Hollister. Shido will be open Sunday from 12 p.m.- 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday 11 a.m.- 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. and Saturday 12 p.m.- 10 p.m.
