NOB HILL — Crazy tiki bar Tonga Room, where it’s always raining, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this week. Things are bound to get nutty at its birthday party this Wednesday, September 23; get your ticket here.

MISSION — Another, albeit younger, anniversary celebration is going down at 16-year-old Foreign Cinema this Thursday, September 24 with a chablis dinner. Call for reservations.

OAKLAND — Oakland’s Matatu Festival kicks off tomorrow evening with a dinner from chef Sarah Kirnon (Miss Ollie’s) complete with a reading from musician/poet/actor Saul Williams, jazz records played by Bryant Terry and artist talks with Mahader Tesfai and Donte Clark.
