Most chefs approach opening a new restaurant based on a certain cuisine or style of food. With the newly opened Thoughts Style Cuisine Showroom in SoMA, chef/owner Mu Chanma had a different approach. "The concept is a fashion showroom that's food instead of clothing items," she told Eater. Chanma and her friends are designing a sunglasses line, and they came up with the idea for "brunch and shades." The sunglasses won’t be ready for another three months, but Thoughts Style Cuisine Showroom is already up and running.
Like a showroom, Chanma chose stark white walls with transparent chairs and rose gold details. It’s a cold space that reflects the concept (Chanma wanted it to be so bright that people wear the sunglasses inside), but belies the food, which is a mix of down home Thai and Italian. In the last year, Chanma developed the menu of dishes like tom yum kung risotto and seafood khee mao penne. "We bring the sense of Thai food with Italian ingredients," Chanma explained. Rather than chicken stock, garlic and cheese in the risotto, the hot and sour tom yum soup takes their place.
Thoughts Style Cuisine Showroom is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for breakfast and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner. On Saturdays and Sundays, it’s open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Check out the full menu below.
