It’s been five and a half years of Nick Balla and Cortney Burns heading up the Bar Tartine kitchen, which apparently is time enough. Come December 31, Burns and Balla will leave Bar Tartine, and its current iteration will close.
Not to worry though — both the chefs and the restaurant will live on, albeit in different forms. Balla and Burns will focus on their new Japanese-focused restaurant Motze, which opens Wednesday, October 26, and Bar Tartine owners Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt (Tartine, Tartine Manufactory) will eventually move a new concept into the space.
It’s a definite change of plans, as at last word, Burns and Balla had plans to buy the space and turn it into Crescent. The deal fell through, though, and this is the result. Balla and Burns are currently looking for Mission spaces for Crescent, which will be similar to Bar Tartine in its current form.
Bar Tartine as we now know it will close on December 31. To be determined what will be move into the space and when, so stay tuned.
