Woods Beer Co. continues its rapid expansion, opening cozy neighborhood drinking dens where beer lovers can gather to sample brewer the Woods team’s array of unique beers, and eat empanadas. Outbound, the newest and fifth addition to the stable of drinking spots, is projected to open in January, on the same strip of Judah Street occupied by Outerlands and Trouble Coffee at 4045 Judah St.

“Each project is unique, and a real opportunity for us to create a space for people to connect with each other,” Jim Woods told Eater. This time around, the project has some ties that are unique to Woods himself, given his family’s long history of dwelling in the Outer Sunset. “It’s a great mix of people out there. I want my 60 year old uncle to be able to come in and feel like he's home, and I want families to be able to bring their kid in on a Saturday during the day.”
There’ll be six taps in the 750-square-foot space, as well as a 20-gallon brewing system, and a “Crowler” machine for canning beers to go. A long bar is the main focus of the otherwise simple space, with a few tables in front. Like at its sister establishments, empanadas will be the main snack, and might prove just the right thing to accompany a pint and an hours wait for brunch next door at Outerlands. There’s also an outside patio slated to open in spring 2017; the taproom will open in January.
