Hayes Valley Loses Longtime Burger Joint Flipper's Gourmet Burgers

The restaurant has closed after nearly 20 years in the quickly-gentrifying neighborhood.

As Hayes Valley fills with exciting new dining options, one longtime holdout has sadly faded away. Flipper’s Gourmet Burgers officially closed last week, ending a nearly 20-year run of globally-influenced burgers and tons of fries. Ownership recently changed hands to Brass Tacks next door, though new owners Matthew Conway and Anthony Healy-London (who also own Churchill in the Castro) don’t yet know what form it will take, though it will be the team’s first foray into offering food.

Flipper’s isn’t the only old-school establishment under threat in the neighborhood; Double Decker is on the docket for a raze to potentially make way for a larger hotel.
