SANTA CLARA — Dumpling mecca Din Tai Fung's first Bay Area location has opened in Santa Clara's Westfield Valley Fair mall with 200 seats and a handsome bar in the 8,500 square-foot space. See hours and menu here. [EaterWire]

SOMA — Matt Semmelhack's short-lived TBD has been reborn as Fénixa colorful new Mexican spot at 7th and Mission Streets in SoMa. While the open-fire hearth left with the old campfire vibe, the renovation brings large, shareable plates and plenty of sangria. [EaterWire]

NAPA — Up north, Curtis Di Fede (Oenotri, Terra) combines California cuisine with a Japanese Izakaya at Miminashi in downtown Napa. Expect a beautiful, zen-like interior with lots of natural light and wood, plus an open binchotan grill for yakitori and an omakase-style chef's counter. [EaterWire]

MISSION — Wildhawk is a new bar in the Mission at 3464 19th St. from the team behind SoMa’s Forgery, who were inspired by Lola Montez, a San Francisco dancer in the 1800s who was apparently known around town as a "wild hawk" (which we’re guessing meant badass back in those days). GHIRARDELLI SQUARE — San Francisco's first restaurant from Bay Area native Jonathan Waxman, eponymously called Waxman’s, opened in Ghirardelli Square. The concept, which features both a restaurant and café, is all about the chef's signature Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, with a Northern California influence. See hours and menu here.
