Jonathan Waxman Changes Name of Upcoming Ghirardelli Square Spot to Waxman's

It will open in a matter of weeks

Hey, remember that time Jonathan Waxman named his Ghirardelli Square restaurant Brezza Emporio and Pizzeria? Well, he's changed his mind, renaming it "Waxman's." No time to spare, either, since the restaurant is slated to open its doors during the month of March.

Apparently Waxman and his partner Howard Greenstone "never really liked it [the name Brezza]." Greenstone told Hoodline that the change will clearly indicate that it's Waxman's restaurant (obviously), something that is important for the chef. This is, after all, a homecoming for the Berkeley native. The concept, which is "California Italian" seems to mostly remain intact, combining Waxman's signature cuisine with the bountiful local produce. Split into two parts, Waxman's will offer The Cafe, a fast casual spot, and The Restaurant, with full table service. Keep an eye out for The Restaurant, which plans to open first.

Waxman's will be the first of the planned revitalizing components of Ghiradelli Square, and will be followed by Le Marais' second location. Stay tuned for more opening details in the coming weeks.
