Lemonade Moves Forward on Plans to Open Location in Inner Sunset

The SoCal fast casual chain is setting up shop in former La Boulange spaces

Last fall, Eater reported that Lemonade, the all-day healthy food chain from SoCal, planned to open multiple locations in spaces formerly occupied by La Boulange (Palo Alto, Burlingame Walnut Creek, and SoMa, all of which are slated to open "early 2016"). Now, the company has officially set its sights on La Boulange de Sunset, filing for a formula retail permit in the roomy space that is over 5,000-square-feet, and includes sidewalk seating.

Because the rapidly growing company has over 11 locations, it is classified as a chain, and is therefore required to obtain approval from the SF Planning Commission before it can go any further with its plans. Billing itself as a "healthy, flavorful alternative to fast food," Lemonade is hoping to charm neighbors and overzealous NIMBYs who might not take kindly to a chain moving into the 'hood, promising something for everyone and handing out free food at a recent open house. If all the cranky neighbors sign off, Lemonade hopes to open its doors by the end of 2016.
