ROOFTOP, the restaurant from East Bay wine bar owners Jim and Jennifer Telford (Residual Sugar) has opened its doors in Walnut Creek today.
The 180-seat restaurant boasts chef Justine Kelly at the helm, who was most recently the executive chef at the techie haven, The Battery; her resumé also includes time as the chef de cuisine of Slanted Door in San Francisco and as an entrepreneur, running meal delivery service Sunbasket. It's in the same swanky corner of Walnut Creek as Teleféric, the recently-opened Basque restaurant, as well as high-end shops like Neiman Marcus.
Food is described as "re-imagined New American cuisine," mostly executed in family-style format. Dishes like roast chicken, braised short ribs and banana leaf-wrapped black cod grace the large plates, alongside small plates like crispy lamb meatballs. (Check out the menu here.) And unsurprisingly, given its owners' major wine backgrounds, there will be a large selection of wines by the glass, craft cocktails and beers on tap.
They're now open, starting at 5 p.m.
