The Causwells Burger Hits the Main Stage at Popsons, Now Open in Mid-Market

The spin-off is all burgers, all the time

The popular Causwells burger has let fame go to its head and is stepping into the limelight with a burger joint of its very own. Called Popsons, the restaurant has been previewing its Americana menu in pop-up form in SoMa for the past few weeks, but it’s now ready to go big with a flagship, permanent location. Open as of today, the burger joint from Causwells founder Alvin Garcia and chef/partner Adam Rosenblum has the same menu as the pop-up of burgers, fries, chili, hot dogs, salads, milkshakes, beer, and wine. The restaurant bills itself as “chef-driven,” which translates to only offering certain ingredients — like tomatoes, notably — when they’re in season.

The 1,300-square-foot space was designed by interior design firm Arcsine and Upcycle Builders to have a playful, urban vibe with local artwork from Ian Johnson and lots of wood, red, black, and white elements. There’s also a 500-square-foot outdoor seating area to watch the usually crazy action on Market Street.

The flagship Popsons at 998 Market St. is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The pop-up location will continue to operate until the land is converted into a multi-use condo building (which could be up to two years).
