The second location of Outer Sunset poke spot Poki Time won't actually be in the Sunset, owner Quan Khuu tells Hoodline today. Instead, the fresh and quickly expanding local chain will open its second location inside the historic combination Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell at Lombard and Fillmore Streets in the Marina.
The former neighborhood favorite for drunken, late-night popcorn chicken purchases is actually scheduled to be demolished in the next couple years to clear a spot for a nine-unit condo building. But in the meantime, Poki Time has obtained a temporary lease to serve up poke bowls, fresh veggies and other Hawaiian-inspired dishes for at least the next year and a half. Barring any permitting problems, Khuu says the new 19,000 square-foot space is expected to be ready for business by the end of June and will feature a seating area roughly the same size as the Irving Street location.
Khuu tells Hoodline, "we're just trying to keep up with demand," presumably cause by the current wave of poke spots that is washing over the city. Aside from the prime corner in the health-conscious Marina, the group is also eyeing a space in Daly City and the second Sunset location on Taraval is presumably still on its way.
