Now open in uptown Oakland is Tertulia Coffee, a unique space that focuses just as much on art as it does on food. The project is from East Oakland natives Tim and Maria Sanchez, who combined her passion for art and his for coffee into one concept — she's an artist and he is a trustee for San Francisco's Mexican Museum. The result is a bright and airy space that serves Stumptown coffee and Firebrand pastries alongside local art from “emerging artists of color.”
Architecture firm Lincoln Lighthill (Blue Bottle) designed the space, channeling an “industrial chic” vibe to blend the cafe and Sanchez Contemporary gallery seamlessly. Hours are daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with evening service with DJ’s, artists panels, and talks to come.
