See Boba Guys' Flagship Store, Now Open in Hayes Valley

With the boba that made it famous, plus savory onigiri and Asian toast

San Francisco tea brand Boba Guys officially opened its flagship location this weekend, marking the company’s biggest store yet in what has been a decidedly successful first five years. Founded by Andrew Chau and Bin Chen with very SF ethos — all-natural and housemade teas, boba, and mixes, rather than the usual pre-made powders and syrups with factory tapioca crowding the scene — Boba Guys has since expanded to two SF locations and one in New York City. Now, this weekend’s opening at 8 Octavia St. marks the brand’s biggest yet, and comes with exciting new offerings to boot.

On the drink side, there are the typical milk teas, lattes, and smoothies that made Boba Guys famous, plus some inventive new additions like nitro tea, tea flights, housemade boba and more — you can see the full drink menu here. It’s not just drinks at this store; made-to-order onigiri is on the menu, too, in unusual flavors like mapo tofu, khao mun gai, and sriracha salmon. Flavors rotate daily for the $5 balls, with two making up a full meal. Plus, the toast scene has a new contender in Boba Guys, with distinctly Asian toasts topped with things like kaya jam made with pandan leaves and 100 percent pure coconut cream, as well as one topped with housemade condensed milk buttercream.

Boba Guys is now open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
