Another day, another surprise shutter. Sadly, Umami is the latest restaurant in San Francisco to close. The 10-year-old sushi spot closed its doors yesterday, accompanied by a note in the window:
To our most valued & esteemed guests,
It is with the utmost regret and a very heavy heart that we pass along the news that Umami has closed its doors for business. Call us another casualty of a changing San Francisco.
To each and every customer, it was both an honor and a pleasure to serve you. To our employees, both now and over all the years, it was an honor and pleasure to serve beside you. On behalf of all of us, we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for making Umami mean so much to us and the community as a whole throughout the last decade.
The group’s other restaurants — Tipsy Pig, Mamacita, and Padrecito — remain open. The closure leaves Cow Hollow bereft of decent sushi options.
