Smitten Brings Its Made-to-Order Ice Cream to the Marina This Weekend

It's the seventh location of the chain

There is a sad lack of ice cream options in the Marina, something that is happily about to change this weekend. Come Saturday, July 2, Smitten is bringing its made-to-order ice cream to the neighborhood, with late-night hours (until at least 11 p.m. most nights!) and an added treat. Starting in the Marina for the first time ever, Smitten is making ice cream sandwiches — specifically, cookie dough with pretzels cookies and vanilla ice cream with Guittard chocolate chips. The sandwiches will then debut at the rest of the shops on July 8. San Francisco is no stranger to excellent ice cream sandwiches, between CREAM and Baked Bear, so it will be interesting to see how this sandwich stacks up.

This location of Smitten is returning the space to its history — in the 1930s and 1940s, it was an ice cream shop called Eastman Ice Cream. To preserve that, Smitten kept the exposed beams and a mezzanine, which is where the liquid nitrogen tank sits. Local artist Meaghan Truelove created a mural for the shop, and there is outdoor seating with custom-built milk crates.

This is the seventh Smitten shop to open, and another is set to open this fall in the Mission. Hours for this location are Monday through Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday from 12 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
