Yountville is known for some of the valley’s finest dining (The French Laundry, Redd), but until now, there had not been a chef-driven fast casual option for locals and those on the go between tastings. To fill that space, chef Anita Cartagena (formerly at Ciccio) has opened Protea with a daily-changing menu of Latin food, with every dish mainly under $15. The counter service menu usually has empanadas, cubanos, salad, fish tacos, and ceviche, varying slightly day to day, as well as a beer and wine license.
The space has a backyard overlooking the town, as well as the Mayacamas mountains, so if you do want to spend a little time, there’s a Yountville-worthy view. Protea is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
