San Francisco gets not one, but two, of course

Eater's roving restaurant critic Bill Addison spends his days traveling from town to town across America, all to find which restaurants stand out from the pack. While earlier this year he named the country's most essential restaurants, today brings a different category: the 21 best new restaurants across the country. Consider this the heatmap for the entire nation; it’s the list of the USA’s hottest, coolest, and most delicious restaurants that have opened in the last year.

Now onto the exciting news: Two San Francisco restaurants made the list, just like last year, when Californios and Liholiho Yacht Club were a part of the elite group. For 2016, it’s Cala and Petit Crenn that join the ranks, and there couldn't be two restaurants more worthy of the designation. Addison calls Petit Crenn, Dominique Crenn’s more casual French sophomore effort, "enchanting," while Gabriela Cámara is praised for her ability to make ingredients "resound with clarity and harmony" at the Mexican Cala.

Additionally, Addison put out a second list of nine restaurants that "narrowly missed the final cut," in which he gives a shout out to Lord Stanley for its "lyrical tasting menu." Head here to read his full write-ups, and to see the full list of picks.
