Last week came the news that Lazy Bear pastry chef Maya Erickson was leaving the popular supper club, and the city of San Francisco altogether. Now comes news of her replacement: chef Edward Martinez.

As part of the opening crew of Cadence, the now-shuttered mid-Market restaurant helmed by executive chef Joey Elenterio, Martinez received many accolades for his inventive desserts, including Starchefs Rising Star Chef Pastry Chef 2016. Now he’ll bring that creativity to the stage at Lazy Bear, which is known for its boundary-pushing American cuisine. Chef/owner David Barzelay told Eater that he and chef de cuisine Chris Johnson planned to take a larger role in the pastry side of things generally, though certainly Martinez won’t need too much guidance in that realm.

Erickson’s last night of service was Saturday, July 30; stay tuned for details on what Martinez will bring to the (very long) table at Lazy Bear.
