Update, 8/17, 4:09 p.m.: Due to a permitting delay, Nightbird will now open next week, exact date to be determined. Stay tuned.

After years and years of construction delays, chef Kim Alter (Plum) will open her Californian tasting menu restaurant in the heart of Hayes Valley this week. Nightbird will officially open its doors on Thursday, August 18.

The restaurant has been one of Eater SF’s most anticipated openings more than once. Now it will debut a $125 tasting menu in a 38-seat dining room. Named after Alter’s childhood love of owls (check out its Instagram hashtag #owlnightlong), there’s a bit of a bird theme throughout the restaurant, which is described as “an elegant boutique restaurant in the heart of San Francisco which embraces community, diversity, and delivers a hospitable and whimsical experience.” Next door is a seven-seat bar with a 1930s Art Deco vibe called the Linden Room, offering craft cocktails in a cozy atmosphere.

Reservations are now available on OpenTable. Stay tuned for more details, photos, and info at opening.
