Mikkeller Tasting Room and Bottle Shop officially opens today, following the transformation from the European beer-focused Trappist Provisions. The tasting room will be the first in America, outside of the recently-opened Mikkeller brewery in San Diego, and the only one outside of Denmark that focuses on retail and merchandising.
Co-owner Aaron Porter told Eater that the transition to a completely Mikkeller-focused bar and shop stems from a great relationship with founder Mikkel Borg— Porter's partner, Chuck Stilphen, already owns and operates San Francisco's Mikkeller Bar, and is in the midst of opening a much larger version in Los Angeles next summer. "The space already lent itself to that aesthetic," said Porter. "It was an easy transition."
The bar, which is newly adorned with Mikkeller artist Keith Shore's distinctive artwork, opens tonight with 12 taps of draft beers, and an extensive selection of bottles to drink there, or take home. Stop by tonight (Friday, August 19) from 4 p.m.- close to try some of these super special beers.
