According to tipster Joe B., Poggio Trattoria restaurant in Sausalito is currently on fire. Images show smoke rising from the building, which also houses Casa Madrone Hotel and Spa.
An employee confirmed that the restaurant was on fire over the phone, but was forced to evacuate the building before more details were obtained; the Larkspur Fire Department is currently on the scene.
The restaurant is known for Northern Italian comfort food, and produce from the owner’s organic garden, as well as its bollito misto that appears on the menu each winter.
Stay tuned for more updates.
UPDATE, 12:45 p.m.: Great news for Poggio fans, as Eater SF receives word that there was only smoke and no fire during this morning’s evacuation of the restaurant. There was a malfunction with the exhaust fan in the kitchen which caused smoke, and resulted in a visit from the fire department. Luckily, given the heat wave currently hitting the Bay Area, the restaurant and its patio will be open tonight for dinner as usual.
