About a year after launching the simple taco concept Glena's from inside Potrero Hill'sProvender Coffee Shop, chef Michael Gaines (Kin Khao, Manresa) and wife Stephanie Gaines (Plow) are ready to permanently bring their casual Mexican fare to the Dogpatch. With a subtle announcement on Instagram, we learn the Gaineses will be taking over the former home of Mexican/Salvadoreño joint The New Spot, just off Third Street at 632 20th Street.

While it won't be a huge change for the block (in broad cuisine terms, at least), Gaines tells Eater that diners can expect a focused menu with about 12-15 items, plus a full bar with a few house cocktails and a small beer and wine list. For menu hints, last winter's preview dinner at Lord Stanley included tacos al pastor and deep-fried plantains with sea salt and crema. Earlier test runs with home-cooking, ingredient-delivery startup Din also sent out Gaines' instructions for a chicken torta and a lovely looking bowl of pozole.

For now, the 500 square-foot space is undergoing a full renovation, but will seat about 25-30 when it officially opens in early 2017. In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on Glena's instagram for updates.
