Salt & Straw’s Hayes Valley Shop to Arrive in May

It’s gonna be big

Salt & Straw

Salt and Straw, the Portland-based ice cream company with a cult following, has revealed its second location. Come May, expect a shiny new store in the heart of Hayes Valley, at 580 Hayes St.

It will occupy “several thousand square feet” in the bottom of a newly constructed condo building, on the former grounds of Hayes and Kebab (at Hayes and Laguna). Much like the rapidly approaching first location at 2201 Fillmore St., the Hayes store will bring offer the quirky flavors that have garnered a loyal following, such as Arbequina olive oil, sea salt with caramel ribbons, and honey lavender.

Owners (and cousins) Kim and Tyler Malek are bringing their wares to what they consider a similar food scene to Portland; the Bay Area’s excellent produce and taste for new flavors jive nicely with the duo’s general ethos.

The two SF shops will be the newest addition to a rapidly growing company with four shops in LA (with another on the way), and three in Portland. For some insight on the company from co-founder Tyler, check out his visit to the Eater SF offices:
