A fundraiser pop-up for Mexico is going down at Wing Wings in the Lower Haight on Tuesday, October 3rd. From 5 p.m.-9 p.m. head over for tacos from Media Noche, Minnie Bells, Richie Nakano and more.
More relief for Mexico from East Bay restaurants
A group of restaurants in Berkeley, Oakland, and San Jose have started a relief fund to help those affected by the earthquake in Mexico. All diners need to do is visit one of the restaurants below Tuesday, October 3rd. Proceeds will go to Topos, the group providing aid to victims; check with individual restaurants for more information on percent of proceeds donated.
Tartine’s first LA project is open at Fred Segal in Santa Monica
Eater LA reports that Tartine’s first foray down South is a cafe, now open in the new Fred Segal space on Sunset Boulevard. It’s offering coffee from Coffee Manufactory, plus the promise of food down the line. This is a precursor to next year’s opening of LA’s own Tartine Manufactory, which will be bigger than SF’s flagship.
Jacques Pépin alert
Jacques Pépin, everyone’s favorite chef, doting grandfather, and silver fox will return to the Ferry Building for a demo of kid-friendly recipes with his 13 year old granddaughter Shorey. It’ll happen in the CUESA classroom in front of the Ferry Building on Saturday, October 21 from 12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m. followed by a book signing at Sur La Table.
ICYMI, Mau will live on
Last week came news that Mau, the popular Vietnamese restaurant on Valencia, would close due to a rent hike. Over the weekend came better news: Mau will stay open after the landlord and tenant were able to come to an agreement. The restaurant will reopen at the end of October/beginning of November.
