Long-delayed Chicago arcade bar Emporium is finally ready to play: Customers can set new high scores at the soft opening this Friday, December 1st.
Co-owner/operator Danny Marks just made the announcement, teasing the bar’s more than 50 games, from pool and skee-ball to classic arcade video games. Those are housed in a four-level space with soaring, 45-foot ceilings: The 1926-built Harding Theater. Formerly a movie palace and vaudeville stage, with Emporium, it’s now home to a new brand of entertainment for the Divisadero corridor.

The 12,000 square-foot space is the latest playground for Danny Marks and brother Doug Marks, Chicagoans who run three popular Emporium locations there. The team began work on the space at 616 Divisadero in 2015 and were beset with construction delays: It’s been vacant since 2001 and required some serious repairs.
When Eater SF checked in with Emporium SF in September, Marks was busy installing tap lines and games. Now it’s time to get those tokens ready, people. And non-gamers needn’t worry: Down the road, Emporium will also host movie screenings, DJ sets, and full shows.
