Beer Week cometh
Clear your February schedule: Beer Week returns from Friday, February 9th, through Sunday, February 18th, marking the 10th year of the local celebration. The website is live, and favorite events like a beer and dim sum brunch at Hong Kong Lounge II with Fort Point are back. Tickets to the Beer Week opening Gala, the night that brings together more than 120 Bay Area breweries, are on sale now, but many if not most individual events are un-ticketed.
Monk’s Kettle celebrates 10th anniversary with 10 events
Speaking of 10 year beer anniversaries, 16th Street beer bar and restaurant Monk’s Kettle is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and for them, beer week comes a bit early. From Saturday, December 9, through Monday, December 18, they’ll host events like a night of releases from Belgium’s famous Cantillon brewery, two beer pairing dinners, and a cellar sale for customers to take home some discounted bottles.
Rooster & Rice is expanding
Another coup for khao mun gai, the thai poached chicken dish that’s becoming a Bay Area fast-casual favorite: Rooster & Rice, who operate Marina and SoMa locations, are reportedly opening a third at 125 Kearny Street in Union Square, formerly home to Urban Picnic. The newest Rooster & Rice could be open by the end of the month.
Burger business takes on Caskhouse space in Noe
Noe Valley’s Caskhouse closed in August, with its owner shifting full attention to nearby sister bar business Hamlet. Now there’s a new taker for the space at 3853 24th Street reportedly called Hi-Way Burger and Fry. They’ve applied for a Type 41 license to sell beer and wine on premises, but are apparently just getting off the ground in terms of renovations.
